The Maplewood Memorial Library builds community and enriches the quality of life throughout Maplewood by bringing together diverse people, information and ideas. Tables, chairs and signs are not allowed. The library should not be a threatening place for a child; therefore, the following policy has been established. Ideas Festival Internet Access Policy The Maplewood Memorial Library is pleased to offer Internet access to library patrons as a way of providing the most current information resources available. The library cannot ensure the privacy of individuals who use the Internet to conduct business or for personal correspondence. Children under the age of 8 must be under the direct supervision of an adult at all times. Parents and guardians, not library personnel, are responsible for what their children view and read on the Internet. Unattended Children's Policy Unattended Children Policy The public library is a place where any person may come to read, relax, work, look for books and other information, etc. Computers in the adult area of the library are for patrons grade 6 and up; younger children may use them if an adult is present to supervise. Unreasonable use of the rest rooms, including bathing, laundering and changing clothes, is not permitted. Patrons whose bodily hygiene is offensive so as to constitute a nuisance to other persons shall be required to leave the building. A caregiver must be at least twelve years of age, and must be capable of assuming full responsibility for the child. Any patron whose privileges have been denied or suspended may have the decision reviewed by the Library Board of Trustees. Patrons will comply with federal, state, and local laws and library policies. They will value and respect library resources and conduct themselves in a safe and orderly way. Illegal activities or activities that interfere with or disrupt the network, users, services or equipment are prohibited. They will be courteous, considerate, and understanding of library patrons and staff. Wear shoes and shirts at all times. If a child is left unattended in the Library for an extended period of time, or when the Library is closing, or in the event of an early closing due to inclement weather, Library staff will contact the Maplewood Police Department to take custody of the child. Children may not be left unattended. The exception is for the Storybook computers, and for parents sitting with younger children. Roles and Responsibilities Patrons are participants in a shared, public use environment and must conduct themselves accordingly. Children seven 7 years of age and younger may not be left unattended in the Library. Use of the Library by groups 3 or more people is permitted in Library Meeting Rooms only. Attend to personal belongings. Service animals as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act are welcome.
